How to solve a really nasty system of nonlinear equations?

PLEASE HELP College algebra!!!!! solve the following system by addition method. Linear and nonlinear systems of equations.?

  • 2x-6y=5 5x-15y=2 I have been stressing over this problem like crazy and I am literally crying because I don't understand how to do it. The professor told us that she wasn't ...show more

  • Answer:

You have to multiply both sides of the equation or else it is no longer an equivalent statement. -10x + 30y = -25 10x - 30y = 4 when you add the equations you get 0x + 0y = -21 There is no solution, which means the lines are parallel. Graph the lines to check it out. You can also check without graphing by just finding the slope of each line. y = 2/6 x -5/6 y = 5/15 x - 2/15 both lines have a slope of 1/3 but different y intercepts. that means they are parallel and thus do not intersect or have any common points.

Other answers

  2x - 6y = 5, or 6y = 2x - 5 y = 1/3 x - 5/6 Slope = 1/3 5x - 15y = 2, or 15y = 5x + 2 y = 1/3 x + 2/15 Slope = 1/3 The equations have the same slope, so the lines are parallel so No Solution ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
