Can I purposely induce memory loss?

Memory Loss : What happens in brain in case of sudden memory loss?

  • This is follow up to the question In case of memory loss, what are the activities inside brain that lead to this? What events trigger the memory loss and how? I am not talking about Alzimer's desease but sudden memory loss in case of an accident or other impacting events (probably a mental shock?)

  • Answer:

Memory loss after a traumatic accident or incident is usually the result of brain damage. When certain brain cells die, you lose their locked synapse, in affect the memory that they have contained or held over time. In the case of intense shock or danger, not from a physical standpoint but an emotional or mental one, the brain instinctively switches to survival mode, sometimes pushing parts of it (such as the parts that control and hold memory) onto the back burner in order to give as much energy and attention as possible to the parts of the brain that can immediately benefit the self when in times of peril. Note: I'm not a doctor, merely an observing applier.
