Can laptops download textbooks?

• I understand on things such as kindles and ipads you can download textbooks for college. But can laptops do the same??? if so which ones?

  You actually cannot download many textbooks on 6-inch ereaders. Many e-textbooks are huge files and have pages the exact-image of the textbook pages. 6-inch readers and phones are too small a screen to read them on and since they are copy-protected PDF-type formats, the font size cannot be changed and lines cannot be reflowed to fit a small screen. So most e-textbooks can ONLY be downloaded onto computer/laptops and tablets. Since most ebooks are DRM-protected, they can only be read in the free reader software offered by the ebook seller and the software must be registered to the account that bought or rented the e-textbook. So, for example, if the e-textbook is bought at Amazon, one of Amazon's readers must be used (e-textbooks can be read on their reader software apps for PC, Mac, Android & iOS tablets) Apple (iBooks) is one that has NO software apps so any e-textbooks from them can only be read on Apple hardware.
