What financial gain does Start Sports have in showing cricket matches (without any ads) for free on their website?

Star Sports and ESPN earn so much from advertisement on television that they can afford match streaming online for long enough. But they won't offer it for long. As mentioned on their website, this free broadcasting is for limited time only. It is very old marketing strategy. Imagine what would have happened had Star Sports started with pay per view on Internet. Very less people would have paid because most of the Internet users were used to (and happy with) reading commentary from cricinfo or cricbuzz. Now, with this free streaming, people watching matches online will no longer willing to read commentary from cricinfo or cricbuzz. And once enough people get addicted to it, Star Sports will either charge the streaming or will place a lot of advertisement banners or pop ups around video streaming window.
