How to explain my misdemeanor on a job application?

I am looking for a job in Tennessee, Do I have to report a misdemeanor on my job application ?

The application form will specify what they want. Some jobs only look for felonies, others ask for any conviction. Don't volunteer the information if you don't have to but do answer honestly if it's asked. If the firm hires you and then the report comes back, you are fired if you lied. Be careful with a theft conviction. Any job handling money is going to be nervious about that. Now if you have some money and it's been a while since the offence, you can hire a lawyer and ask the court to seal the record. I've had to do that once. It cost me about $500 to get it done but it was worth it.

I would report it--they're probaly going to do a background check anyway. Be up front, honest, tell them it was a transgression of youthful stupidity, and that is not you. Good Luck!
