Home schooling websites?

I am a certified teacher who would like to try out home schooling. Does anybody know of any websites that can?

  • give me more information about it. By the way, I am looking into locating to the following places:Toronto, Los Angeles,New York or Texas- preferably Austin. Thanks

Hi Jonathan, I homeschooled in California and Texas and can tell you this: Out of the 3 cities/states within the U.S., Texas has the most liberal (read: minimal) regulations on homeschooling, followed by California. Unfortunately though, New York is considered one of the heaviest regulated states for homeschooling. I'm not familiar with rules in Canada so I'll have to defer you to the other posters (and they are great indeed!). If you want a crash course in "homeschool 101", check out my website (I listed the link below in the source field) - I wrote up a series of articles to answer questions especially with folks such as yourself in mind (I know...because I was one several years ago while I was moving from California to Texas). My articles cover a range of interests such as: 1) what homeschooling is (and isn't), 2) homeschool laws and regulations, 3) costs of homeschooling, 4) homeschooling and socialization, and more. Hope this helps and good luck. Sun Bae Home School Educator ProntoLessons.com

I think you are going to have to be a little clearer in your question. Are you a parent looking to homeschool your own child? Then your certification means nothing and you would have to meet whatever state regulations apply. Are you looking for a job in homeschooling as a certified teacher? No such thing. You can be employed by a cyber school or a public school program operating in people's homes, but that's not homeschooling. That's public school in the home. (K12, Connections, IQ Academy are commercial for-profit public schools in the home. HomeLink is one of several programs run by local public schools for their districts; you are going to have to do more research.) Or as a private tutor? Some homeschool families do use tutors for subjects they feel are over their heads. But it's the individual family that would employ you, not a school district. And Toronto is a whole 'nother country, you may want to check with Canadian immigration first. You may not be able to work there if there is a qualified Canadian for the position.

Austin an San Antonio are up and coming cities so size and proximity should be in your favor, especially with the hill country a magnet for people of means. I'd check with any local religious group favoring home schooling. They may sponsor a particular curriculum among their parishioners. A search of area churches should be available on either cities website.

If you meen teaching homeschoolers, you can teach at a cyber school from home. There is PA cyber, Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School(PAVCS), Pennsylvania Leadership Charter school(PALCS) and many more. the website for PAVCS is www.pavcs.org If you want to homeschool your child(ren), you could consider a cyber school.
