Dear Miss (name), My name is X and I am X years old. I am writing to you as I am interested in doing some Work Experience at the Beeches veterinary surgery. although I am no longer in school/of school age, the work experience would be beneficial to me as i would like to gain a further knowledge in the area of animal management as i plan to one day run my own pet business (mention here what you currently do for a living/education/if your unemployed but volunteer at an animal shelter or if your also interested in volunteering ect.) I have always been fascinated by animals and take great satisfaction from knowing they are being given the best possible future which is why I believe the veterinary surgery would be the best place to learn about proper care and management, I am interested in all areas of the surgery and would not mind doing administrative or cleaning duties. (mention here the types of animals you are most interested in e.g I currently own 4 rats, and am greatly interested in all rodents) (the type of pet buissiness you wish to own e.g if i am succesfull in owning my own pet buisiness i would like to breed and sell rats, and general rodent care items) (put in a short cv type explanation for yourself e.g for the last 3 years i have been a waitress at such n such) I feel I should mention for your records that I do have Autism which is a social/learning disorder, which has hindered areas of my education, since then I have become allot more able and it would not affect my capability's during said work experience. Please contact me at **************<give your number if you are able to take me on. thank you for your time, i look forward to hearing from you Yours sincerely, (My name)

I agree with the first two replies, if you don't have any previous experience working with animals I would volunteer at a shelter or try to work for some Kennels in your area. Either way, having both volunteer and paid time working with animals will show your efforts and dedication, despite the fact that your educational background may look bad. I took a moment and re-wrote it for you. I hope you don't mind, good luck my dear! I am interested in gaining some work experience at the Beeches Veterinary Clinic. I have always been interested in animals and love caring for them, it has been a passion of mine since I can remember. I one day plan to open a business of my own involving animals, there for I am trying to accumulate as much experience as possible. If you would be interested in helping me achieve my life's goal, I would truly appreciate your assistance. Feel free to contact me between ____ and ____ am/pm, I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time, _________ (if you volunteer/get experience somewhere else, put at the bottom resume attached and then add another page listing where you volunteered, for how long. The person who said you should mention your autism at the end of the interview or first day is totally wrong. You shouldn't keep things like that from them, plus you say it won't affect your capability of working, So what is the point in hiding it? If anything they'd like to know about your autism so they can make you feel more comfortable and at ease, they wouldn't want to feel like you had kept it from them until you secured a position. That's sneaky and it's nothing to be ashamed of anyway. Your letter is absolutely perfect, the only thing I have done is add in a few more words, so if you like it, use it : Dear Miss (name), My name is X and I am X years old. I am writing to you as I am interested in doing some Work Experience at the Beeches veterinary surgery. This work experience is important to me because I have always been fascinated by animals and get alot of satisfaction from caring for them and I love making them as happy as they can be. I would like to experience caring for all types of animals and have a greater knowledge of them some day. I would not mind working any administration duties you have because I would love to own a pet business so I would enjoy the experience of learning about each part of the surgery. I must mention for your records that I do have Autism, which is a social/learning disorder, but I am more than capable of working for you despite this, as I have owned and cared for a cat for 19 years and 4 pet rats with no problems. Please contact me about the possible Work Experience placement you could offer me. Yours sincerely, (My name) GOOD LUCK!! :)

It sounds fine, however I would add in any experience you have with dog walking/bathing/feeding general animal care, because that is what they may have you do. Also if you are good with computers or data entry or customer service. They probably won't have you dealing with the animals fist hand until you've been there awhile.

I don't know whether mentioning your autism outright like that is the right or wrong thing to do. Personally I wouldn't mention it simply because I would want them to see me, interview me, and get to know me, before they make a judgement about my capabilities for the job. Then maybe towards the end of the interview (or your first day) mention your autism.
