ok: these are three popular components: DVD player- maximum resolution = 480p and can use a/v composite cables (red, white, yellow) or component a/v cables (red, green, blue + red and yellow audio cables) blu-ray disc player - maximum resolution = full hd 1080p and uses component a/v cables or HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) cable hd set top box - hdmi cable, component a/v, coaxial cable here's a list of cables and their highest possible resolutions (best to worst): HDMI cable: 1080p component: 1080i/720p s video: 480i composite a/v: 480i coaxial: 480i hope this helped
