How much should a beginning freelance writer charge to write a press release?

  • I've been recruited by a marketing consultant to help copy edit and write press releases for a major fast food franchise. I've got about a years worth of experience from a previous internship in addition to a few years of undergrad under my belt. Please help me determine what a fair and reasonable price would be to write a press release. Also, it would be helpful if you could explain how you got to your price quote, i.e. was it based on words, time, length, etc.

A lot depends on where you are working and the business climate.  I've hired independent writers from beginners at around $25 per hour to senior folks at $75 per hour. When I've used agencies, they've charged between $75 and $125 per hour.
