Answer:
It is a good idea to let them know you use it for work. You might actually have to buy a commercial auto policy. The last thing you want is to get in an accident while working, have the insurance company find it out and cancel you and not pay the claim because you held that information back. It is unlikely that they would know that you were using it for work, but it could happen. The best way to handle this IMO is to call an agent and tell them exactly what you are using the car for and let them guide you to the right type of policy. You can connect with one at no cost at http://www.myinsurancequotes.net. Fill out the quote form and a local agent will call you and help you through this. Jared Balis http://www.utahinsurance.org

It may. Depending on what you do. If your employer has "HIRED AND NON-OWNED AUTO coverage, you may be able to get away without the extra. However, withholding important information like you are a delivery driver for a pizza joint may cause your policy to be cancelled, or a claim denied for misrepresentation. And, if they really want to be nasty, misrepresentation is a form of fraud, and can be punishable by law. So... that being the case, I would divulge that you use it for both. That way your tail end is covered. And, if your employer has a line of coverage on either his general liability or auto policy specifically covering vehicles he does not own, you should be ok. You can always deduct specific work-related expenses on your taxes anyway. Find out from an accountant how much you can claim.

Well, yeah. They base the rates partly on how much driving you do and in what areas you do it.

Generally, insurance companies base premiums on the total annual mileage driven; your age and where you live. The issue of driving to work is more one of someone needing to drive in much denser traffic with higher accident rates, thereby increasing your risk of an accident, and their risk of a claim. Many people do not admit to driving to work, particularly in areas with freely available transportation alternatives. Good luck.

Some policies premiums is based on annual mileage you drive so driving to work would make it higher, thus cost more.

Probably will go up. Check with your local tax franchise, you may be able to deduct it as a business expense. :)

dont tell them that you do, or it will increase your ins. some companies will make you carry extra ins. or commercial ins. if you use your car for work. but the bad side is that if you dont tell them an have a accident. they might not cover it, if your working.
