Where to get a surround sound system to put in my room and use with my ps3 and hdtv?
-
How much will a good 5.1 surround sound system cost me? I'm fine with one from a box,a few wires won't bug me. And how will I know if the speakers can hook up to my tv?

Answer:
Stay away from those home theater in a box. They are not flexible for adding anything to them or for up grading. They are not very dependable. The only system that I can recommend with confident is the Onkyo HT-S3500. It is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Demo the unit at any Fry's Electronic and it retails for around $300. You can connect you PS 3 to the unit along with connecting your tv to this unit and hear the sound. Hope this will help you out.

Cheap home theater in a box systems are uniformly solid steaming cr*p. They have lousy sound, weak amps (They lie in their specs for them) and they break easily. Once one part breaks, the whole system is trash, because you can't use any part of them with any other system. If you want some GOOD sound and some good quality gear, then buy a proper home theater audio receiver and a 5.1 set of speakers. You can get a Yamaha 371 at Amaz*n for $170, or a Pioneer 522K for $180, and a great speaker set, the Polk 6750, at Newegg for $180. The only thing that's cheaper, and it's not as good, that I can recommend would be the Onkyo HT-S3500 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker/Receiver Package, $250 at Amaz*n. You'll still need a separate disc player. You didn't say if you want DVD or BluRay, A Samsung 5300 BluRay player will run you $70 on Amaz*n. Depending on which gear you buy, you will need some connecting cables. For the speakers, 100 feet of 16 gauge speaker wire and a subwoofer cable. For connecting to the disc player and TV, a pair of HDMI cables. And, to be able to send TV sound into the receiver, a digital optical audio cable. All those can be found on Amaz*n as well, and getting good cables (They also sell some bottom of the barrel cables, that are too cheap to use) shouldn't run you more than about $40.
