I only have a high school education & only once did I have an employer check on that. And the reason I am able to know is b/c I graduated Adult Ed at a school that recently changed it's name. The one employer that did check said he needed the phone # to Adult Ed 'cuz the regular high school didn't carry the adult ed graduate info. Now that the High school changed it's name, it's even harder for them to find out if I graduated. Personally, I don't think many employer's check out the references. I don't think they really care as long as they feel the person can do the job.

Some do, some don't. Generally, when an employer is qualified to interview you in your specific discipline, they can usually tell if you've been to school or if you know what you're talking about. In the case of a manager who isn't knowledgeable in your area, they tend to depend on the paperwork, i.e. validating your degree and GPA, etc.
