Does aloe help heal chemical burns?

Why does aloe help burns heal?

  • Answer:

You don't want to put aloe on a burn any deeper than a 1st degree burn. It does help skin to heal in a few ways - not least of which is that aloe vera (aloe barbadensis miller) helps to reduce swelling. This is very important. Also, skin absorbes the moisture in aloe 4x faster than water alone. This is because one of the properties of aloe is that it opens the pores of the skin. Finally, aloe vera encourages the repair of the underlaying support of skin by encouraging the production of elastin and colligen. See link in "sources" for more.
