Why does my DirecTV receiver keep turning off?

My directv D10 receiver keeps turning itself off, is it dead?

• any troubleshooting I can do with my Directv D10 receiver? I turn it on and it turns of in 40 seconds automatically every time.

  you could possibly have a faulty multi switch at the dish and the receiver is simply tiring to protect itself. ( could also be a bad power inserter if you have a swm dish). call cust. service to help diagnose d10 thru d16 models are internally all the same and typically are pretty solid.( when they die they dont usually try to reset themself ) if its covered in dust, blow it out with canned air, dust creates static and shorts currents on the circuit boards
