What kind of flowers makes the garden look better?

edging is a must for me. we have the wall retiner blocks and it just seems to pull everything together, yards without it look unfinished to me. alot of people like perennials like hostas and daylilies that come back every year. annuals have outstanding color but only last that summer.

If you don't want just flowers then try something different, if you are in the south of England then try Globe Artichoke, wonderful plant to grow and you can eat it too, other than that, I tend to grow in my borders the medicinal flowers, coneflower purpures being one of the best, sorry not into latin names, also chamomile, marigold and also herbs of which there are lots, lavender, sage, parsley (mint contain as it spreads) rosemary, chives and I have to say in my location that Escolonia is one of the best shrubs as it flowers for such a lot of of the year and is very hardy. For edges being in a very rural envioroment I use old logs for my raised beds, stones retrieved from the garden and anything else I can get my hands on, you can use just about anything if you want to make a natural garden rather than "forgive me "pretentious" gardening, to me a garden brings in wildlife, feeds us and gives natural beauty, so bring the things into your garden which will encourage nature to take it's course instead of the synthetic gardening most people seem to want these days eg concrete! i think a timeless lok is using stackable stone for borders (maybe 2 layers tall. I would have a variety of plants and group similar plans for bigger impact. I love boxwood that is a bright green shrub year round and is very manicured looking. I would vary the height so get a few blooming groundcovers, and butterfly bushes for variety. i would invest is hibiscus perenial varieties ebcuase they have big beautiful tropial flowers are different varieties will grow down to zone 4
