spinning reel? baitcasting reel? MH/H/L rods? Get something in the 8-12lb test area. for all.... ideally, you would have several kinds of setups for several kinds of applications. (flipping, crankbaits, worming, dropshotting, etc, etc... if you ever watch any of the bassmasters or flw's, the boys bring at least 10 setups.
