What makes CALIFORNIA so much better than all of Pennslyvania?

Do I need to get a California Driver's License (what makes someone a California resident)?

  • I'm currently working in California, paying rent for housing, did CA vehicle registration... According to the dmv...http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#two500 "Residency is established by voting in a California election, paying resident tuition, filing for a homeowner’s property tax exemption, or any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents"

  • Answer:

I just went through this, having recently moved to CA. As far as I can tell (and IANAL etc.) you only need to get a new drivers license when the old one expires. CA DMV says that you can continue to drive on your old license until you do something that makes you a resident, as you've noted. Also, when my wife and I went in to get our new licenses, they punched a hole in my wife's old out-of-state one, but not mine. No idea why, but my old one is essentially still valid.
