  If it actually is a new TV (not just new to you) you don't ned a DTV converter - all TVs sold since some time in 2007 have been required to have digital tuners in them. All you need is a good antenna and lead-in (and if you have a good one left over from the pre-2009 days you can use that one - you don't need an "HD Antenna" or "Digital Antenna" - there's really no such thing as either of them, other than marketing hype). The 3 most importan secrets to OTA (Over The Air) reception is like real estate - Location. Not just how far from the transmitteting towers you are and what obstacles may be in the way, but where the antenna is located in/on your house. If you can manage it, the best choice is a roof-top mounted antenna (just like as far back as the1940s & '50s). But if you're within about 25 miles line-of-sight of transmitters you can probably get by with an indoor antenna (or even amplified indoor).
