AFL/NRL debate whats more important television audience or bums on seats?

Shifty, it's gotta be Television/Satelite coverage ( Foxtel ) etc . I wonder how much longer someone like myself, who can't afford Foxtel, will be able to access free to air coverage of the footy ? Keep rambling !

So NORM COUCH-POTATO sits in his lounge chair with the remote, watches NRL & puts nothing into the NRL code while AFL fans get up off their collective a...s's, take public transport (job support) to venues (more jobs) pay their $$$ (code support) to get in and personally support their team, buy more supporter's gear etc. Now add attendances to TV viewers (and deduct our overseas friends from New Zealand from NRL) for NRL and it falls well short of the combined Australian total for AFL, a bigger % of whom value add to the AFL code. Can a national code survive on shrinking attendances even if TV viewers were to miraculously increase ???

Gate receipts don't come into these days. A big crowd gives the game great atmosphere and looks great on the telly. But tv is where the money is. The NRL viewing figures are better than those for the AFL. It may be different if all the AFL games were live but then again, on free to air, only one game a week (sometimes) nis live for the NRL.).
