    A Unit Secretary's duties at a health facility is assisting department heads, staff including medical staff to non-medical..From time to time you may have to assist another secretary as well. Technology has change from my time of working as an assistant/secretary..Back then a lot of typing report request from nurses..maintaining staff files and records up to date..keeping track of staff personal attendance and doing the payroll etc. This all depends which department you work for within the hospital...I was then promoted to a Unit Manager in Ambulatory Surgery. It was and still is one of my Favorite "work experience" I wanted to be a nurse..a long tme ago..

I was a unti clerk while going thru nursing school~~they gave me a Baylor weekend position, but I did ALL the RN work, except mixing meds, I even hung their IVs. and got none of the pay....PLUS i did ALL the paperwork on the unit and some weekends got pulled every 4-8 hours to a new critical care unit. I was the first person the 'customer' saw...and it was a nowhere job as far as the $$$ went. When you maxed out you had no where to go but back to college....which I did at age 47. I did NO scheduling and the only computer work I did was putting in orders when the nurses told me, "I didn't go to college to use a computer." I swore that I'd NEVER be one of those RNs and I never have been. I help our techs and secretaries as much as humanly possible and encourage them to go to nursing school to get the $$$$ they deserve!
