How different would the present situation be if India were not a democratic country?

Suppose India was an anarchist country/a monarchy/ a republican ,etc. country. How would India have been? What would be the current situation? A timeline from Independence is expected, Answers can be of a particular type of government, or multiple. Feel free to use your imagination :)

Let us see India from a monarch's point of view...... During 1947, India was divided into more than 30 regions of varying landscapes, climates, cultures, religions, races, etc. If at all, a monarch was asked to rule India, the first question that people would ask him would be "Who is he to put rules on us ?" Then, if he was of a particular religion/caste, the other religions/castes would be offended. Many fights would be fought between various states to gain control of India. Uniting such a vast diversity would be an uphill task for a king. A single person cannot be entrusted with such a duty of prime importance. People nowadays never give a thought about this. While reading a newspaper, they simply mumble, India would have been a better country if it had not been a democracy. But I say, India would never have been a country at all if it was not a democracy. Today, it remains a model for so many countries because of its multiple policies of governance, "Sovereignity", "Secularity", "Socialism", "Democracy" & "Republican".
