So I was browsing for airsoft guns and i noticed competition series airsoft guns are much more affordable than other airsoft guns. Is this because they arent good?

Answer:
Competition and Elite, or Sport and pro, are classifications. Most competition guns are built for those who are on a budget and though they're not metal externally, internally they've got like a V2 gearbox that is highly upgradeable. The competition series normally have less features such as lower power range, working charging handle, etc. I started out with one, and it never quit or broke, just hated Elite Force midcaps

There are two classic classifications of airsoft gun. Sportline and Proline. Recently, Elite Force has rebranded this Cometition and Elite series guns. Proline guns are made from top of the line materiel, with the time taken to shim and grease the gearbox properly. These guns generally have very good externals as well as internals. Sportline/Competition series guns are not as good as proline guns. These are guns made by high end manufacters, same as the Proline. However, the bodies are usually made of cheaper plastics and cheapers metals, if any metal at all. They often miss out on advanced features. They are also greased and shimmed with a lesser degree of care. However, the materiels for the internals of the gun are almost exactly the same as those used in the Proline, making them still a decent option, with only a few minor downgrades. In the case of the Elite and Competition line, the Elite guns are usually made by Ares, where the Competition series is made S&T, a split-off of areas. Both use steel gears, polycarbante pistons, etc. However, Ares is a much better manufactuer with tigher tolerances and much greater quality compared to S&T, as well as using nylon reinforced polymer instead of standard ABS plastic. The Elite line also often includes blowback. This does not mean the Competition or Sportline guns do not perform well. They usually perform as well if not better then other guns in the price range. They are just for beginners who want a good brand for a low cost, or players looking for a cheap yet reliable loaner rifle.
