Which masters degree would be best when seeking a future career as a narcotics or homicide detective in LE?

Is it too late for me to attend college in hopes of a masters degree and career at 32 years of age? to old?

  • If any of you out there started seeking higher education at 32 or later and have been successful and prosperous, please send me some hope and tell me of your experience.

  • Answer:

I am 51, and am about to complete my second master's degree. That has worked out quite well, even though I am in a field that some say is easier to learn when you are younger. I plan to go for my Ph.d starting in the Fall, after which I hope to embark on a new career. So I would say 32 is definitely not to old to seek more education!

Nope, i've known a forty-sumthing getting their bachelors. At 32 years old, you are still pretty young and still have many years ahead of you. Besides you don't wait until you are like 50, and wonder what "could" have been.

I'm 44 and half way through an Undergrad degree that I started last year, obviously at 43. Once I finish this degree in Apr 09 I plan on starting on a Masters in the same field. My sister is 37 and just started on her PhD and she didn't start her Masters until she was 34. You can do anything when you set your mind to it. Believe me, you have nothing to worry about other then getting frustrated going to school with "kids". Your work ethic will be better and your prep and life skills will give you a leg up on them I'm sure. Go for it and good luck.

Are you still alive and healthy? then it's never too late.

32?!? Huh! Try 40! A good friend of mine went back to college and became a registered nurse @ 40! I'm 40+ and I'm still taking classes to improve my business! My mother got her PHD when she was 45 years old! Now she has her own practice in addition to working for the state. I met a lady who was 63 years old and she went back to school and got her high school diploma! Then she continued her education and got her associates degree! Live your life! The notion that a person is too old for progress is a bunch of hot air! It's never too late... Go for it girl!

My husband is ~34 and still working on his BA. But we make bank! You can too. Stick with a degree with some practical application (No sociology, or journalism) Get an degree in a technical or medical field. The great thing about a masters is that your undergrad gets "over written" basically. So even if you were an English major for your BS, now you can get a useful degree. No offense meant to the Soft sciences - they just don't pay the bills the same way. If you like helping people consider Physical Therapy or Audiology. If you like solving puzzles consider computer programming. If you like office work consider a business masters. Good luck! P.S. the time will pass anyway- wouldn't you rather get your degree?
