What year was the first thanksgiving?

What did people eat in year 1490? First Thanksgiving?

  • Like the famous first thanksgiving? What was served besides turkey?

  • Answer:

Feasts of Thanskgiving were carried here from Europe, the first one in the Americas was in canada in the late 1500s, the first one in what is now America was in the 1590s in what is now Florida... and the famous one with the Pilgrims that has been popularized (incorrectly) as "the first Thanksgiving) was in 1621... so I'm not real sure which one you meant. Basically the Pilgrims at deer (the Natives brought them, they were a hit) wild fowl (turkey, swan, etc.) and seafood (oysters, eels, fish, clams, etc.). They also had things like onions, pumpkins (they ate it roasted), purslain, and other veggies and berries and such. They drank beer. They did not have apples, cider, etc.; they did not have potatoes or yams; they did not have pies, etc.-- very little of our traditional T-day food comes form the Pilgrims.
