Answer:
I try not to give specific suggestion about this since the "right" mouthpiece will not be the same for everyone. I almost always suggest going to a store and trying one out. Since you're nor near one, I'll give you a few suggestions. Hard Rubber Otto Link- #6 Hard Rubber Meyer- 6M Hard Rubber Berg Larson- try a medium tip opening like 105 or 110 with a medium chamber like a 1 or 2 The traditional standard that a lot of people end up trying if they are play jazz tenor is a Metal Otto Link #6 or 6* You should check out www.saxontheweb.net there are a lot of great people on that site and you may find one in your area that may be able to help you or even have one for sale. If you buy from www.saxquest.com, you can try out the mouthpiece for a couple of days and exchange it for a different one if you don't like it. There are other on-line companies that will do the same like www.weinermusic.com and www.music123.com If you have a favorite player, try and find out what mouthpiece they use. You can usually just type in mouthpiece and their name in a google search and come up with something. Don't think for a second that it will make you sound like them though. The pro's usually sound like themselves not matter what mouthpiece, horn, or reed they use. It's all about finding what is most comfortable to you. Hope this helps. If you're interested check out my MySpace at www.myspace.com/ralphtorresjazz. I play on a metal 7* Otto Link that has been resurfaced and played a vintage Selmer C** on alto. Good Luck.
