Is a chef carreer a good carreer?

Am wanting a change of carreer, have been in the motor trade for 15 yrs and would like to become a chef.?

  my son-in-law did this about 20 years ago. He'd been a shipping department foreman. never finished high school and didn't get any special training before he started. his first cooking job was in a pizza joint that served by the slice. at first, all they let him do was pizzas. then they started teaching him their other dishes. he borrowed and read books about Italian cooking from the public library. some two or three years in, he had their whole menu under his command and became the lunch shift supervisor. after that he moved to a more upscale place [bigger too] as the third chef. stayed there over a decade and became the head guy [after the owner, who actually ran the place himself]. it can be done.
