When and what do I say when I call an employer after an interview ?

Send a letter of thanks for their time and the opportunity. Follow up with a phone call about one day after they receive the letter. Just mention that you were calling to make sure that Bob got the letter you sent and that you'd like to let him know that you're available to answer any more questions. Then mention that you do have one or two questions for him, "is he available?" Come up with two questions specific to the job and ask Bob. Hopefully you'll just roll into a general conversation. The idea is to get him to remember your name and voice. Say something nice about the secretary you spoke to and refer to her by name. That should be enough to make you stand out.

Send a thank-you letter expressing you appreciation for the interview. Also put in there that you are anxiously awaiting their call.

thank them for the interview and just call and say that you were following up on the interview, wondered if they had any other questions for you. You might come up with a question such as " When do you want somebody to start?"
