How to get a Train Set into a show?

  • My brother has an amazing train layout. So my mom and i have been trying to find ways to get his layout into a Train Show. So how do you get a model train layout into a Train Show.

    A good way of promoting the layout is to get it published in a well known Model Railway magazine (Model Rail, British Railway Modelling, Railway Modeller or other relevant railway modelling magazine). A lot of model railway clubs will have access to these mags and will sometimes invite featured layouts to a their annual show if they think it worthy enough. A good set of pics, a good written description of what it's based on, how you built it, how it works will go a long way to getting it in a mag. Once invited to a show, it may be seen by members of other model railway clubs, who may like it and therefore talk to you about it and may even invite you to their show. And so on and so forth.

Ask the promoters of the show. Some shows are organized by clubs, trade organizations, or even local commerce depts. Talking to the event promoters would be a step in the right direction. Also, it helps if the layout is transportable. You know, easy to take apart, transport, set up again. Many clubs design their layouts built around this purpose. Size sometimes plays a factor.
