Marketing or sales career?

Career advice (india) : is business development manager is just a fancy name for marketing and sales or it has different responsibilities?

• I have completed my MBA in hospital administration and healthcare services after completing my bachelors in homeopathic sciences. I am getting an option to work with insurance company as business development manager which is field job of meeting clients or should go for an 3 months internship in apollo hospital and look prospectus in hospital industry. Does BDM and marketing executive do same work or there is any difference?

  I think it is going to depend on the industry and the specific organisation. You say you're in the health industry and I have to say I have little experience in dealing in health. But generally, I would hold reservations about a 'Business Development' position as it has in the past been known as a more sales oriented role. But I see particular organisations working to be better at lead generation and thus the role of a BDM is more marketing focussed. Sorry not a great answer.
