Contact your service provider's Customer Care, e.g. Airtel, Vodafone.. Then say that you lost your Mobile. They'll ask your basic details to verify your identity. Then tell your imei no. They'll make your Mobile a solid brick, worthless for anyone. But you cannot find your Mobile

I doubt if YOU can, but the police can definitely try to track your phone. Don't get your hopes high though. I lost mine about 5 months or so back, but haven't heard from them. You should definitely file a complaint and visit your nearest police station. That way, should the thief misuse the phone, you are safe.

Police have to file your complaint and act on that. But we have seen that many policewala don't register the mobile loss complaint as it increases crime cases on books and imagine how many mobiles are getting lost in india everyday. However, you must pressurise them to register the complaint if you're carrying the original purchase invoice of your phone. Alternatively you can also check couple of articles on http://www.mobilereview.co.in to read more in such cases.

Actually No.. This can be done by police only with the help of your telecom operator. In today's world nobody has time to take a follow-up of the case registered with police for which a huge advantage is being taken. If you are ready to take pain and take the follow-up of the case you might get your handset. Firstly you have to be successful in getting complaint registered and then you have to follow-up with police. Later, when there is no result and if handset is really costly you should go to court and take order from there requesting police to submit the where abouts about your mobile.   If you are ready for all this pain probably you might land up with your own mobile in your hand again there is one more problem this all will happen subject to if the IMEI of mobile hasn't been swapped by someone.   Best of luck for your struggle..

A tough problem. Once the SIM is removed, it is no longer registered on your provider’s network using the MSISDN (your telephone number), so you will possibly only have the last known location where that SIM and MSISDN was active. The IMEI is only used during the initial registration of a cellular device on the network, so is not a reliable to check for its location - would require active effort on the part of the network engineers and best if it shows up on the same carrier, probably. However, you can ask your provider to log that IMEI into the Equipment Identity Register (EIR) as a lost or stolen device. If somebody else then tries to use that phone with another SIM, it will get flagged and reported as such. This process does not always work, because it requires cooperation between the various carriers EIR systems. But it is about the only recourse you are likely to have - particularly if it is stolen. Ideally, the thieves will try to active on the same carrier as you, so that the EIR has a chance to catch it. This may allow the carrier to determine its location too, but if the SIM then gets removed again (because it did not activate), then the same location problem applies.
