Can I still be critical about the jobs I choose?
-
I am a 28 year old female. I have had some bad years and started my education rather late. I have read a lot of self improvement books. That taught me a lot about focusing on the long run, doing what I am good at and getting my 10k hours in to become a master at something. I applied for some traineeships in recruitment, but I either get rejected right away, or during the interview process. My past and my age seems to be holding me back. I have several educations on my resume that I did not finished and I think that makes me look like somebody who can't finish and keeps trying new things. I feel like I am in a very bad situation. I am almost 29 and have not mastered any skill. I am a peoples-people, but that is not really a hard asset to put on my resume. It's something you notice when you talk to me. The last interview I went, I got rejected because there where more experienced people. So the way I see it, I am either beaten by experience, or my past. I have no idea what to do next. I have a master degree in Human resource management but I can't find any jobs that is related to that degree. I don't think I am having a negative perspective, I believe I am being realistic. The economy is terrible, companies can choose whoever they like and my resume is so bad that I don't even get to the interview stage. I am lost what I can do.

Answer:
Just two thoughts and one good wish: For each company you are trying to get in, write a resume that would show you are the right person for this job. Don't mention any incomplete education if there is no relevance. Start your business - not necessary a profitable one, something like HR consulting - in order to have a name and position, and mention this business in your resume. Try and you will succeed. I wish you a good luck.

I can only say one thing based on what you have written - your English skills are not your strong suit. (There a number of grammatical errors in your description.) I would avoid any work that requires English writing of any kind. If you are seeking employment in a country that requires fluent English you are clearly at a disadvantage. Any school you attended and graduated from will have some form of job placement or internship programs. I would thread back to that office and start fresh with their support instead of going it alone.

maybe you can try to go into a small company or you can ask someone else to help modify your resume and train your interview

if you feel that your resume is not up to the mark the companies expect, although you have the potential, why don't you start a small business of your own ?? A wedding planner or a party planner for example.. since you are good with people..
