How To Apply Galaxy Mini Theme?

Should I buy an iPad Mini or Galaxy Note 8.0?

  • I am not an iDevice or an Android device owner so pretty much an unaffiliated consumer, hence I am agnostic to either platform. Here are the reasons why I am thinking of Galaxy note 8.0 over iPad Mini: 1. Mini has 2 year old technology (from iPad 2), Galaxy 8.0 has the latest specs. 2. Galaxy 8.0 has better display. 3. Not a heavy duty tech user and from what I've heard, app stores fairly similar for light users like me. 4. Movies on iPad according to reviews, are not viewed well due to the 4:3 aspect ratio. 5. In my country, an iPad Mini and Galaxy Note 8.0 have a $50 difference (iPad is cheaper) for the same configuration. This difference is not an issue for me. 6. iTunes: Haven't used it before but from what I hear and read in reviews; it seems like a closed environment which also doesn't support all formats + file system is as per Apple and not me. All in all, the walled garden seems restrictive. 7. Stylus in Galaxy Note 8.0 seems like a handy device. Have tried it on Galaxy Note 2.0 and found it useful for non note taking and sketching purposes as well.

  • Answer:

Both are equally great if they are to be compared, If I were you, I would go for the Note 8. Let me justify that as per your requirements: Mini has 2 year old technology (from iPad 2), Galaxy 8.0 has the latest specs. Frankly Speaking, Apple is not really a specification-oriented company. It just fits the hardware that is required for the software. You will never really see a hardware lag in any Apple device. I recently had my hands on one of my friends' iPod touch 2nd generation and it still felt like in a good working condition. The lags mainly come due to the software incompatibility with the hardware or the base software (e.g. there are reports about some lags in the Galaxy S4 with the fact that the S4's got the most advanced hardware on any smartphone ). So you can trust the hardware specs of the Mini, and it won't really be a big problem. 2. Galaxy 8.0 has better display I agree with you at this point. 189 vs 163 ppi. +1 to Note 8. 3. Not a heavy duty tech user and from what I've heard, app stores fairly similar for light users like me. I would not say that, just in my opinion. Trust me, I have used both.. And Apple's Store is really better than Android Market w.r.t. tablets (even for phones). So +1 to Mini. 4. Movies on iPad according to reviews, are not viewed well due to the 4:3 aspect ratio. I would agree with you at this. And movies will surely feel more awesome on Note 8 as compared to Mini. Hence +1 to Note 8. 5. In my country, an iPad Mini and Galaxy Note 8.0 have a $50 difference (iPad is cheaper) for the same configuration. This difference is not an issue for me. Well, Lets leave that. :P 6. iTunes: Haven't used it before but from what I hear and read in reviews; it seems like a closed environment which also doesn't support all formats + file system is as per Apple and not me. All in all, the walled garden seems restrictive. That's really the most important negative point for Mini w.r.t you. Most of the Apple lovers hate other products(or at least hesitate to switch to stuff like Windows Phones) mainly because of this point. iTunes( and iCloud etc.) is the best +point for Apple and at the same time a negative for customers like you(I never really liked iTunes on Windows but iTunes really rocks in Mac) and hence a +1 for the Note 8. 7. Stylus in Galaxy Note 8.0 seems like a handy device. Have tried it on Galaxy Note 2.0 and found it useful for non note taking and sketching purposes as well. Agreed \m/.. +0.5 to Note 8. :D So hence 1 vs 3.5.. Clear win for Note 8... :) But all these rankings were made in accordance to your requirements.. Let me tell you some aspects at which iPad gets the +1: 1. Book Reading 8 inches are already the bare minimum for an ebook reader and hence 4:3 will really help the matter for document reading. 2. As I mentioned before, Apple's Store and Apple's ecosphere.. If you're in any plan of buying any other Apple product in the future, you'll regret buying the Note 8. 3. iOS vs Android.. Thats a pretty debatable topic. And I would answer this in one line. If you're a man who wishes to make things simple in his life go for iOS, and If you are a geeky kind of a guy OR if you really like Google (like me) go for Android. So, thats it, Take your time and decide with a fresh mind.. :)

Perhaps a better question would be "Should I buy an iPad mini or Nexus 7?" Take a look at the Nexus 7, it is a very good Android device. Although I've never personally found the iPad mini to be revolutionary in any way/shape/form, it will work better for you than the Galaxy Note (or any product, for that matter) because of the company that makes it. Now, I'm not trying to sell you an Apple product or I wouldn't recommend a Nexus 7 be added to your comparison. The situation is not identical from person to person, for sure; just keep in mind that the kind of company Apple is, (working on hardware/software together, and putting the kind of quality they do into their products) they are the higher-quality choice. Get the iPad mini if: You use and like other Apple devices You have a Macintosh computer You have an iPhone or iPod You want quality hardware You want the most advanced mobile OS You want the superior support Apple provides You are willing to pay a bit extra for a better device You want the best selection of third-party apps You want consistent free OS updates You want a durable, beautiful yet functional design Get the Galaxy Note 8.0 if: You use and like other Samsung mobile devices You have a Samsung computer running Windows You just want something that works, it doesn't need to be great Get the Nexus 7 if: You want the best Android experience possible You use and like other Nexus devices You have a Chromebook or Linux-based computer You depend on Google's services on an everyday basis You want the best mobile device Google has to offer You prefer non-metal devices While the above comparison only includes tablets ranging from 7-8 inches (Nexus 7 is 7.0", iPad mini is 7.9", and Galaxy Note 8.0 is 8.0" in the diagonal) I personally highly recommend you don't rule out the iPad with Retina Display without also looking into it first since it performs faster and better than all three of the devices compared here. Although the screen is bigger at 9.7" (which many users prefer, like myself) it has better internals than the others. (As far as performance goes, iPad mini is the iPad 2 in a smaller shell) NOTE: As of the time I'm writing this answer (late April 2013) it is starting to get close to the time of year when Apple is expected to release the next generation of the iPad mini. If you decide to go with that, you may want to wait a few months to get the newer device at the same price then that the current one is now.

Galaxy Note 8.0. If you haven't used iTunes before, I'll assume you're not already bought into the Apple ecosystem. The stylus functionality is great, so is the screen and multitasking support. They are underrated IMO. You will also have better luck streaming to/from the tablet using DLNA than an Apple device. Suggest you try to get a few minutes hands-on each in a store.
