How can I fix my tv when it won't turn on?

My TV wont turn on. any suggestions of whats wrong with it and how to fix it?

  • My sisters boss brought a nice 22" sharp TV and said it didnt turn on. I brought it home. Im wondering if its anything i can fix before i pay alot to have it repaired at a shop.

    Be careful. TVs will hold a charge (voltage) for long periods of time unless you know how to discharge them. There is probably a main fuse inline with the cord you plug into the wall. If you open up the TV follow the power cord wires inside to see the fuse. Like I said though BE CAREFUL.

just try to unplug the tv from the power outlet and leave that for minimum of 15 sec.then replug it back again then use the power button on the tv itself. see if it works.if not then its a service issue.

Not to be unkind, but the first problem is the name on the TV , SHARP. They are not too reliable, to say the least. Did your sister's boss "brought" a 22" Sharp, or has he "BOUGHT" one ? If he bought it, take it back, ASAP ! If it's used, try the manual power button on the front panel of the TV. If it still won't come on, then there is something wrong inside, maybe a blown fuse, who knows. It could be a dozen things. I would ( if it's used) cut my losses & trash it. Buy a Sony or Panasonic or Samsung LCD, then you'll have a good TV.

If you are trying to turn it on using the remote, try using the power button on the unit itself instead. FYI- Sharp is the Kia of the electronics world.

Try checking the INPUT buttons on the remote/s I had that same problem and I called my neighbor over and he spent about 30 min. trying everything and then remembered the INPUT button and pushed it and it started working again.
