Hi I was kind of interested in the Disney College Program in Orlando. I just have a few questions, 1. How long does it last? 2. Do they offer the internships in the Summer? ...show more

Answer:
I was a CP in 2004. Things may be a bit different since then. 1. How long does it last? It depends on your school requirement. I was there for 4 months. I think the regular stay is 6. International students are there for 1 year. 2. Do they offer the internships in the Summer? Yes. I interned in the summer. It was incredibly hot and muggy. 3. How much does some of the jobs pay? Close to minimum wage. I think I made a bit over $8.00/hr. 4. What about housing? Do they give you a place to live? Do you have to pay for it? How much? You'll stay in one of three housing complexes. They all have security gates and are manned 24-hours a day. You can only get in with your assigned ID and you can't go into other complexes after a certain time (like 10pm). You'll have 3-5 roommates. As you mentioned, the cost is taken out of your checks automatically. The electricity is free which is a Godsend in the hot summers (we kept that A/C cranked). 5. When they want to schedule an interview, will it be in enough time for me to get to Orlando? I was interviewed in my local city. They'll tell you on which date you need to be there by. 6. What are the hours you work? Are there shifts? Or the whole day? It depends on what you do there. I cooked at one of the restaurants. It was an 8-hour day. 1/2 my time there I worked the morning shift, the other 1/2 was the evening shift. This is generally up to you and your supervisor. 7. How much did you usually left over? And was it enough to go out and have fun and buy things? You really don't have much left over. Enough for groceries, toiletries, and a bit of recreational spending. If you have a car, you won't have anything after gas depending on how much you drive :). 8. And any more info would be great! The housing complexes are a-ways away from the parks/hotels. Unless you have a car, you will ride the busses that Disney provides for the CP. They run on schedules and stop at designated places around the parks. One goes to Wal-mart so you can go shopping. Each complex has a pool or two, computer lab, workout room, library, laundry machines. You'll do a lot of walking. Park admission is free with your ID, and you get a (I think it's 20%) discount on merchandise and restaurants (doesn't work for quick food vendors). Almost every day after work I would hit the parks and bum around. You get to ride all the rides until you're sick of them (I never got sick of it). You'll learn cool behind-the-scenes stuff nobody else knows about. I got free passes from co-workers that I could give to my family (regular workers get them annually). My wife and I were able to hit all 4 parks, Seaworld, and Universal Studios without paying any admission. It was a good time.

1. Depends, you can do a regular program (lasts about 4 months) or an advantage program (about 7 months). 2. Currently they do not have just the summer program, you may however do the fall advantage program, which includes the summer (starts in May and ends in January). 3. Not much. I believe its like 6.15 or something an hour. Quick Food/Beverage are paid a little bit more though. 4. Yes they make you live in housing. The apartments are pretty nice (especially Chatam), but if you can request having a small number of roommates. Trust me on that one. They take housing out of your paychecks, which makes your paychecks very small. 5. Their interviews are usually done over the phone, so you shouldnt have to worry about getting to Orlando. 6. Hours suck. I was working from 8 pm to 4 am at least 3 times a week. And the other days were morning shifts. My sleep schedule was all screwed up. - I have mixed feelings for the college program. On one hand i enjoyed the social aspect of meeting new people and having fun in Disney, but the work itself was brutal. Disney treats their college program employees as if it was slave labor. It is a smart strategy for Disney, dont get me wrong. But the pay, hours, and type of work are pretty bad. But if i had the opportunity to do it again, I probably would say yes. Hope that helps

According to my husband and his excoworkers, and being a local whos known tons of ex and current Disney employees and Disney College program graduates, plan on living like your in the military. Unless you just dont have other options for school or are a huge Disney fan, they are VERY strict on you and demanding hours. Not saying its a bad thing... just prepare for that in the Disney College Program. They also found that after Disney taking out food, housing, bus and all the little fees he was left with very little to spend or save!

1. Either 4 months or 7 months 2. No summer internship unless you are an alumni of the program 3. At the end of 2007 it was 6.67 but I believe it went up around 20 cents. 4. Housing is provided, money comes out of your check 5. They interview you over the phone 1 1/2 - 2 months before you would start work in Orlando or Anaheim(if you applied for the disneyland program) 6. You work any time imaginable. Sometimes you will work 4 ten hour days, or more. Many times you will work 5 eight hour days. I picked up extra shifts for a 6th day of work, the overtime let me save up for a stereo, mp3 player, plane ticket, etc.
