Fish slow down in the colder months and speed up in the warmer months. Cold water causes their metabolism to slow way down, which makes them sluggish and not too willing to chase down their meals. For the warmer months, it's the opposite; their metabolism picks back up, which triggers them to be more aggressive. I'm sure most will say that the warmer months are better. While I do somewhat agree with that, it's not always true for each angler. I'd say 90% of my big bass have came out during the winter. When fishing during the winter, you normally don't catch a big quantity of fish, but you will generally get better quality fish in. So, if an angler is all about catching lunkers, he or she just may like winter time fishing better than warm weather fishing. If an angler is all about the excitement of catching as many fish as possible, they will probably choose the warmer months as their preference. I, myself, can't pick either or. I love fishing, regardless of the temperature or weather.
