Tips for macro photography?

all of the above are great responses. one thing I will add is to get a focusing rail. this will allow you to make finite adjustments to the focus without having to move the tripod several time hoping to get it right. your subject may move in the mean time. as previously mentioned, the dof is very small so focusing is critical.

[squeals] I *love* macro photography! Im a beginner and amateur myself, but Im sure you'll get some good advice from other people. xD And I think buying a tripod relaly would help. Sometimes I cant hold the cam still. :/

Pre-set the macro setting you want (from 1:1 to 1:2) and then with the camera mounted on a copy stand or on a tripod and focus moving your camera since using the lens will change the image to subject ratio

First of all, try to get the basic tools for getting good images. Ballhead, tripod that allow your camera to be as lower as possible. Macro lens (Nikon uses the term Micro instead of macro). The best pictures will be those taken in the middle of the focal length of your lens, but in macro the depth of field is critical. Nature is always fun to photograph because there are so many intricate patterns that you wouldn't normally see in a normal picture, that you can see through macro photography. I love close ups of eyes too!
