When does it make sense for icons you make to be made into a font vs. using as an image on a website?

Answer:
Icon fonts are vector based and will always stay sharp when rendered by the browser. Images are pixel based so you will loose quality at some point. Icon fonts are also scalable and more flexible. It depends on your need, it doesn't make sense to create a font for 3 or 4 icons in this case you can always use css solutions @2x or svg if you want to make retina users happy.
