What's the best way to stay closeted on a social networking site like Facebook?

• There was an article on Yahoo! a few months ago about college students who were outed (indirectly?) by Facebook. I've actually been in a similar situation, thankfully outed to an acquaintance instead of my homophobic family members. But what's the best way to prevent something like this from happening on sites like Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Quora, and Twitter? On Facebook you can hide pages you've liked from your timeline, but not from the newsfeed, making things more confusing. However, you can also have interest lists that no one can see, therefore subscribing to pages without liking them. But what else can you do on all these sites? How do you keep your private information...private?

  Don't link yourself to anything gay. Set your privacy settings to ultra paranoid. Don't post pictures of any hot guys or butch lesbians. Don't mention anything gay or gay adjacent in any of your posts. Don't "like" anything gay or gay adjacent. Don't be Facebook friends with anyone who is gay or may have gay friends.
