How can I use XMP in Sharepoint metadata?

What's the best reporting tool to use with SharePoint 2010?

  • I do have experience writing software, querying SharePoint, writing SSRS reports etc. however I haven't written one for a year and it feels as though there must be better, more efficient alternatives out there by now? Is there anything I can quickly deploy that can pull data from SharePoint web services or even directly from a database (I have access to a subset of data which is extracted from SharePoint hourly).
