What's the best way to treat a burn?

  • I just burnt my left ring finger cooking. In culinary arts 1 we briefly learned how to treat it, but that was a long time ago, so all I remember is not to put butter on it. I ...show more

  • Answer:

Start by dousing the burn with 99% rubbing alcohol. Dont use the cheap stuff, go for the full 99%. Then scrub vigorously 3 times a day with the rough green side of a sponge. It's best to use a sponge that is broken in a bit, so the one that you scrub your dishes with will be good.

All burns should be treated the same way. You have put a large amount of heat into the affected part, therefore, the heat needs to be removed. Gallons and gallons of cold water. The affected part should be held, if possible, under cold running water for 10 minutes, then seek medical assistance. If you can't hold the part under the tap, fill a bucket or even stand in the bath or stick the part under the cold shower. Whatever, just get the heat out of the part that is affected. Don't apply anything, unless medical assistance is going to take a very long time and the burn is severe. In that case, cool the area as much as possible, cover with a plastic bag and get your *** to hospital. Ignore all this crap about "cool" water or "not running water". Running water, if you can, cos it is carrying away the heat. Don't apply anything, like "compresses" or anything else, whatever these jerks say.
