How to fix the msn bug?

How do I choose a bug to try from a bug tracker list? As I am new to open source, there are no beginner level bugs or quick fix bugs. Which one should I try?

  • I have tried contacting organization through IRC channel but they are redirecting me to same bug-list. Also I have tried open hatch, but there are no bugs to fix. Is this a proper time to get started for GSOC 2014?

  • Answer:

you need not contact any organization or ask for permissions to solve , first you need to work on something which is small and goes well with your existing skill sets , then work with the developers using various channels like mailing list , irc etc.. yes its a slow process you need to be patient while all this goes . Yes GSOC 2014 is around the corner choose an organization according to your skills and do not apply for many organization , just stick to one fix few bugs before hand you should be good.

All the quick/small bug fixes I've submitted to Open Source projects have been to fix bugs I've discovered while using the software myself, so always be mindful of the fact if you come across bugs when using OS code that is the perfect time to submit patches of your own. If you're not lucky enough to be using bug filled libraries and programs, then I would look for bugs that are easy to reproduce consistently and have a clear description both of what the bug is and what the expected behaviour is coupled with an existing set of tests that you can expand on to cover the bug and confirm your fix works.
