My girls placed a password on my home computer by accident, is there a way to find out what the password is?

If it's XP you can log on as administrator, to do this boot into safe mode (restart the computer and press f8 as soon as you see the message select operating system, it happens fast so just push it and hold it down as soon as you get past the memory test on boot-up). When your in safe mode you can go into users/accounts (control panel) and remove the password or change it. You will be logged in as administrator - so you need to change it for your user account.

You need to restart your computer and go into the safe mode. You will have the option to log into an administrator account. From there you can edit the passwords under the 'USER ACCOUNTS' in the control panel. Enter safe mode by hitting the "F8" key before the WINDOWS splash screen comes up .

There is a very easy way to do this. First boot into safe mode (F8), and log into the Administrator account. After that open a Command prompt (run > CMD) and type in "Net User" (without quotes). You will see the accounts of the computer listed. Than type in "Net user [name] *" (for [name] put in your wife's user name listed above (make sure to add the * !)). Than you will be prompted for a new password. Type it in (Note: the cursor will not move when your typing, this is normal) When thats over close out and reboot into normal mode. And log into your wifes account using the new password.
