  Competitive lifespan= 1 season Non competitive life span = for as long as you like, especially if was a legendary car. These cars are used for exhibition races and roadshows. Eg Lotus still maintains nearly all their cars for such purposes. At other imes they dwell in the Lotus museum. Cost of an F1 car - as previous poster said = millions of dollars. Cost per lap - nobody knows for sure except the teams themselves. But I would hazard a guess that it would be the sum total cost (per 1 race weekend) of [mobilisation & freighting + staff salaries + staff accommodation + fuel + tyres+ spare parts + (cost of cars/19 weekends) + spare engines + ground fees & taxes if any] divided by total amt of time the 2 cars spent driving. Now take that figure & multiply that to 1 lap time (for simplicity lets just say 2 mins per lap). It still works into the thousands. But if I recall correctly, teams are to keep to a budget of 40 million pounds per year. This figure will cover all team expenditure except: Marketing and hospitality; Remuneration for test or race drivers, including any young driver programmes; Fines or penalties imposed by the FIA; Engine costs (for 2010 only); Any expenditure which the team can demonstrate has no influence on its performance in the Championship; Dividends (including any tax thereon) paid from profits relating to participation in the Championship.
