What is advertising (career) about?

My advertising job is killing me. What can I do with my new love of motorcycles to be happier in a career?

  • I've been in advertising since 1992 and I'm getting burnt, fast. It's not that I hate the career; I just think that being able to incorporate my love of all things ...show more

  • Answer:

Honestly? Keep your high paying advertising job and use the money to buy nice motorcycles. Ride on weekends and on vacation trips. Stash money in retirement accounts and retire early. If you try to make your living in the motorcycle industry, it will take more time and effort. You'll almost certainly be paid much less. You'll still be working in an office, you're not going to get paid to ride. You'll have lesser bikes and probably less time to ride. Motorcycle rider for 40 years, retired early from pretty high pressure and fairly well paid work and having a blast riding.

I usually see the best motorcycle industry jobs in Cycle News magazine. That said - unless you are in So California, expect to take a big pay cut to work in the industry. There are exceptions, but on the whole, motorcycle industry jobs just pay less than non-bike counterparts out in the 'real world'. The upside? Usually good deals on parts, free event entry, pit passes, a chance to ride all sorts of different bikes, all the cool swag that makes life worth living! Check out Cycle News - if you can afford it, get a subscription - it's a weekly, and not only has help wanted classifieds, but much more industry news about who's working where, and who's looking for new employees. The industry is in the middle of a huge shift, from a very insular cottage community to a global network of well-known companies and brand names. You're thinking about jumping in at the right time - there's more money and opportunity here now than ever before. The only downside? After awhile, you may actually get jaded by the total moto-immersion, and not value your ride time as much. Best of luck in your search!

try www.vacationvocations.com they'll get you an internship somewhere you'll like otherwise, look for something that combines your experience with love of motorcycles; maybe starting your own agency...

try motorcycle sales or equipment rep like clothing , helmets ,tires, street and dirt

advertise for a motorcycle company, a motorcycle stunt or racing crew, motorcycle aftermarket products. as far as motorcycle careers, take a small engine repair class, a few body repair classes and a painting class and your ready to become a certified motorcycle mechanic. I was thinking about this because i love motorsports and workin on cars can be a pain in the as* sometimes because of dirt and space constricitons but thats not the same most of the time with bikes, most of the stuff is right there and pretty easy to access. and whats not you dont have to do 3 hours of dissasembly just ot get to it.

Get a job with Harley-Davidson and use your talents & skills to sell motorcycles. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Career_Opportunities/career_opps.jsp?locale=en_US

well you could always sell them. Harley is always looking for salesmen. Advertising would burn anyone out. Hey, if you want to write, why not? a few college course in that could spark your enthusiasm.
