Phillips Blu-Ray Player Sound Is Quiet?

Should I get a sound system with a bluray player or a separate bluray player?

  • Should I get a sound system that includes a bluray player (all in one box type of thing) or separate components? I don't have a lot of money to spend. Is the all-in-one thing ...show more

  • Answer:

Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or for up grading. They are not very good in reliability, when one item fails you have to replace the whole system. Look at an Onkyo HT-S3500, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Demo the system at any Fry's Electronic and it retail for under $300. Add a Panasonic Blu Ray Disc player model BD-87 for around $90 and you have a nice dependable system. You can connect other device to this unit along with your tv. Hope this will help you out.

The box systems do 1 thing - play disks. If this is all you can afford - they actually work pretty good. But: * you cannot put other speakers or subwoofer on it * You cannot take the speakers and use it on another receiver/system * Basically: When 1 part breaks - you toss the whole thing * You cannot get 5.1 from your HDTV into the speakers * You cannot get 5.1 from any other device into the speakers Keep these limitations in mind.

Separate is more flexilble but cost more because you have to choose an AVR and speakers. On an HTIB, if one component breaks down like for example the receiver, then the bluray player will be useless.
