How to show Google map on the modal bootstrap?

Why does Google show different versions of the Indian map in different domains. For example, Google.in shows J&K and Arunachal Pradesh as a part of India, but Google.com shows them to be disputed territories.?

  • Also, many other official maps show Arunachal and Jammu & Kashmir not as a part of India, do major international organisations not recognize J&K and Arunachal as India's sovereign territory?   This is a photo from NASA's website.

  • Answer:

That is probably diplomacy at work. The popular adage 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do' comes to mind. Google operates out of several countries, and if Google does business in a certain country, has registered office there, it has certain obligations -- sometimes written and sometimes unwritten. In the worst case, it is a right to safe passage. However, in less drastic situations, it is the desire to show what is relevant to the audience. Indian government believes and takes a stand that land occupied by Pakistan and China, in J&K, Arunachal etc., are integral part of our country, while the neighboring countries stake claim to it, thus on world stage making it disputed, or deemed to be disputed.

Companies like Google have to operate under the laws of the regions they operate in. In India, they have to show India's official map - with full parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. In China, they have to go to the other extreme - by showing most of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of China. For an Indian, the map from Google Maps China can be quite unusual and might even be regarded illegal as it includes a normal Indian state as a part of China.  In rest of the world, they try to put both these regions as disputed. These days, more publications are using the official American position as shown in CIA factbook below. That shows Arunachal Pradesh as a full part of India and all the parts of Jammu & Kashmir that India controls shaded the same way as rest of India. This is probably the only viable one for the future as it is based on ground reality and not what some leader imagines.
