  i know for a fact that CDMA phones that are activated primarily using the ESN number from the phone would be put on a flag list and wouldnt be able to be activated again once its flagged as lost or stolen, however, T-Mobile is on the GSM network and when i used to have AT&T you could just switch out the sim card and it would be fine (helped my brother out alot using this whenever he would break his phone and i had an old one lying around) if its your friend then you can just try and switch the SIM cards and see if there is any problems before you actually sell it to him. hope this helps
