What's the weight of a Honda Civic 2000?

Whats the easiest swap for my 2000 honda civic ex non vtec auto?

  • i have a 2000 honda civic ex non VTech with an auto trans. i want a manual trans

  • Answer:

First off, you might want to check your car again, as the 2000 EX (in the US anyways) is always a VTEC engine (Vtech makes phones, VTEC is a camshaft system for fuel economy). If you have a non-VTEC EX, then either it isn't an EX, or it's had an engine swap. Remember, not all VTEC engines are DOHC, the EX received a SOHC VTEC. Your best bet would be just to swap out for a whole B16A2 engine/trans or even a B18C/Type-R engine trans. It would make the car much quicker, and you could have your manual. The problem with that, is converting to a manual from an auto is a hugely involved process that, unless you have a wrecked car for donor parts right there, could take weeks or months to find all the parts you need and cost more than it would to just find a good running manual transmissioned car to begin with.

easiest? a D16 SOHC VTEC, so a D16Y8 or something like that, but since you are going to have to change the complete gear linkage from auto to manual, the gearbox, wiring loom, driveshafts, ECU -- basically alot, you might aswell go for a B16A2 swap, found in the 2000 civic Si/VTi it has DOHC, VTEC and 160bhp, it is far better than a D16 and if you are going to go to the effort of a swap then you may as well go for an engine that wil get you decent results, by ''ex'' ill assume that you live in the states, so im not sure of prices there, but here a good complete B16A2 with around 60k (miles) can be picked up for about £300-500, S4C/Y21 (B16) gearbox for about £200-350, the whole swap will probably mount up, especially as you are going to need to change basically everything, for the auto -> manual swap, and the non-VTEC -> VTEC swap...it may just be cheaper to buy a 2000 Si...the chassis will be better too...it will be alot of work -- no manual VTEC swap will be straight forward and cheap into a auto non-VTEC civic
