What major is the best if I want to be an occupational therapist?

What Should I Major In? I Want To Become A Physical Therapist.?

  • I want to go into physical therapy. What major would help me the most?

  • Answer:

In the US all PT programs are now either a master's degree or a doctorate level degree. Not all PT schools require completion of a degree prior to admittance into the professional phase of the program. Some schools actually have a "pre-physical therapy degree" which is actually quite meaningless, but encompasses all the coursework you need for admission into that specific programs. Other schools do require degree completion.... in that case, I would recommend completing a degree that still encompasses your prerequisites for PT school. As mentioned above, this could include biology, chemistry etc. Yet as long as you have all the prerequisite material, you can pretty much have a degree in anyfield (one of my co-workers has a BA in fine art). Your first step is to get an idea of where you would like to attend physical therapy school (even if it's not the one you are at now) and review that schools prerequisite requirements and whether degree completion is even required prior to admittance.
