Why is the American education system so dumb that it takes 4 years to have a Bachelor degree that is...?

Don't be so quick to blame us... the fault is that of our government, that put politicians, not educational experts, in charge of educating us. Unfortunately, the system is designed to make as many people 'not dumb' as possible. Intelligence has little to do with it... But don't blame the Americans. Many of us- myself included- left the school system, and homeschool/unschool, because we KNOW the system is so bad. It's hard to get by, the government really clamps down on students... we would all love nothing more than to be able to really work hard for a few years, and then go and get a job. They make it hard for us, and we have to really fight to take things into our own hands. But know that, while there are always stupid people in the world, the majority of us try and get by the system as best we can, but try even harder to educate ourselves outside of it. Don't trash us, that shows a lack of intelligence in you, that makes your point somewhat worthless... So let me ask you this, then: Why is it so hard to go to college in the UK as an American?

Its because on the average HS in the US is so weak by international standards. In countries like Australia they do the first year of college in grade 11 and 12 so they only need 3 years for their degrees. And they also start school at 5 so they do 11 and 12 at 15 and 16. At some private schools to increase the chances of getting into university they start grade 11 and 12 subjects in grade 10 ie when they are 14 years of age. This means they start doing college level work in the equivalent of US grade 9. That said, some US HS's are of an extremely high standard eg Philips Exeter Academy. At those schools you can take what would normally be 2nd or 3rd year university level subjects at HS eg partial differential equations. IMHO a school that teaches at the correct level is the Basis schools: http://www.basisscottsdale.org/ They do AP English Language, and AP World History in 9th grade; and HS science at Middle school. Science at HS is at AP level. But considering this merely duplicates what goes on in other countries, it is really only doing what should be the norm IMHO. Phd's are not called Masters degrees in Europe. Some schools in the US take verbal exams as well (eg Thomas Aquanas College). But overall it is part of the dumbing down of US secondary education. Note schools like Harvard, MIT, and Caltech are as good as any school in the world, and a degree from those schools is very well thought of worldwide Thanks Bill

Stay in Europe. We don't need anymore immigrants. Don't ask how to get a visa or green card to live or work in America.

lol yes my man, that is exactly what I have been saying. In Europe you go to the board and if you don't know the answer you get bad grades. It's cause the students here are so unmotivated that if that were the system everyone would be failing. So they throw in all this stuff to teach them slowly over time so that eventually they get to the point after university where they can work. In Europe you go for 4 years and bam, done with school and start work, but here it has to be slower so you have to go for bachelor stuff and all that garbage and then after 8 years you get to work.
